Hailey's Heart Scholarship

A Heart Above is proud to sponsor Hailey’s Heart Scholarship during the month of Heart Awareness Month. Applicants should be a high school student graduating with the Class of 2020. Our daughter, Hailey, was diagnosed in vitro with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.  We spent two and a half months together until she passed in June of 2002.  We are offering this one-time $500 scholarship to a single recipient as our daughter would have graduated with the class of 2020.

We would like to thank all those who submitted their applications for the first Hailey’s Heart Scholarship.  Your words have inspired my family and I to continue our daughter’s scholarship for the class of 2021.  We wish you the best in your academic careers.

We would like to introduce and congratulate the 2020 recipient for Hailey’s Heart Scholarship – Catalina Uribe.  Catalina will be attending University of Colorado, Denver in the fall of 2020 to obtain her undergraduate degree in Linguistics. She has told us: “Languages and cultures are my true passions in life and having the chance to study both after I graduate brought me an immense amount of joy.” Her Colombian family roots and fluency in Spanish and English will help her achieve her dream career to teach language overseas.

Catalina also love taking photos. She constantly takes pictures of anything and everything pretty because she likes to keep the memory.  We asked her what she would tell her past self and she said, “I would tell my freshman self to stop pretending to be someone you're not just to please others because doing so makes you unhappy with yourself. Instead, embrace who you are and what you love because at the end of the day it’s your life and no one else's.”

If you or someone else would like to apply for the 2021 Hailey’s Heart Scholarship please check this page for updates.
